Point Arena-Stornetta Lands

Added by Presidential Proclamation on March 11, 2014, after a huge outpouring of community support, the 1,665-acre Point Arena-Stornetta Unit is the first on-shore portion of the California Coastal National Monument.

Coastal prairies, dramatic coastal bluffs and abundant bird life highlight the Point Arena-Stornetta Lands. This is a working landscape where cattle grazing exists in harmony with hikers and wildlife watchers. The unit spans the coastline from Arena Cove to the Garcia River, p’da hau and can be reached through one of three local access points.

Whether it is walking along the bluffs or meandering through the cypress forests, hikers have access to spectacular scenery and wildlife viewing opportunities on the Point Arena-Stornetta Lands. Visit Point Arena-Stornetta Lands

The rocky coastline along the Point Arena-Stornetta Lands in Mendocino County embodies wild natural beauty: 1,665-acres of dramatic seascapes and memorable coastal hikes. Look for the cool, historic lighthouse as well as unique wildlife sightings, such as the endangered Point Arena Mountain Beaver and the California Red-Legged Frog. Visit this California Coastal National Monument between November and May, and you’ll also find excellent whale-watching: humpback, blue, and gray whales make their annual commutes between Alaska and Mexico.
